28 nov 04 - changes
well, seems like i haven't kept this one up to date. although there have been many this worth reporting the last half
year, i'm just lazy. for this i installed myself wordpress, a nice blogging software.
having said that, the news/blog can be found at consistencies.net.
10 mar 04 - kde 3.2.1 announced
kde 3.2.1 has been announced.
the base packages are in sid for some days now. authentification failures with kdm's autologin are quite annoying
but i guess there's a workaround i just haven't found.
muesli also announced updates for hin cvs repository on the debian-kde-cvs-muesli(!) mailing-list.
24 feb 04 - kde 3.2.0-0pre1v1 in experimental
the kde 3.2 packages by calc and bab are available from the experimental repository.
19 feb 04 - arts 1.2.0-0pre1v1 in experimental
seems like the kde-maintainers started uploading kde 3.2 or at least arts 1.2 into the experimental repository.
19 feb 04 - xfree86 4.4 licencing issues
while 4.3 made it to sid, finally, /. has a
short article about the refusal of many distributors to include the upcoming xfree86
release with its current licence. daniel stone's comment:"Debian will
not ship anything with the 1.1 license, full stop.".
if you wonder what this is all about, read
xfree86's announement on the licence change, for a brief conclusion, this comment might enlighten you.
19 feb 04 - xfree86 4.3 hits sid
jepp, according to apt-cache policy xlibs, xfree86 4.3 moved from experimental to sid.
apt-cache policy xlibs
xlibs:

04 feb 04 - kde3.2 offical sid packages vs. muesli's repository
bad news: according to chris, the offical sid packages will not arrive very soon.
good news: muesli announced some kind of kde-world-domination-plan, if you're into kde somehow, just read it! ;)
03 feb 04 - kde3.2 woody packages online
ralf uploaded the packages for debian woody/stable. check kde's download page for mirrors.
seems like the main site is pretty unreachable due to the traffic ;)
03 feb 04 - kde3.2 released ·update·
finally, it's here, the long anticipated release of kde3.2. read the
official announcement for details. for those not willing to run kde-cvs-head packages provided by andreas or muesli, chris cheney is working
on packages for sid. in the meantime, you'll find sources for chris' 'semi-official' packages at the
debian kde wiki.
·update·
ralf nolden posted on pro-linux.de that the i386 packages for woody are finished and will be uploaded this afternoon. he also
wrote that the alpha and powerpc packages are in progress. koffice and kdevelop are scheduled for the end of the week.
28 jan 04 - hardware monitoring on shutte barebones
i own a shuttle SB61G2
and have failed in running lm_sensors properly. when the
module for the it8712 chip
is loaded, the appropriate registers of the chip are reset causing the i.c.e.-fan to accelerate to full speed. the module parameter reset_it87=0
is not working with current versions of lm_sensors. this problem applies to other shuttle barebones as well.
the current issue of the german linux user magazine introduced
xmbmon written by
yoshifumi r. shimizu. this neat litte application allows easy monitoring of temperatures, fan-speeds and voltages. compared to lm_sensors
it's lacking a lot of functionality but it's easy to set up and for those who just want to keep an eye on their system without messing around with
lm_sensors and it's tricky configuration on some boards,
xmbmon
definitly is worth a closer look.
28 jan 04 - kde 3.1.5 hits sid
martin schulze reports in the debian weely news
that chris cheney uploaded kde 3.1.5 into sid. it's only available completly on i386 for there have been problems on
other architectures. for more details read
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0401/msg01629.html
http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-0401/msg01652.html
28 jan 04 - qt3 issues
if you use muesli's kde-cvs-head paackages it's recommended to downgrade
qt3 to the packages available in sid. on my box most themes refused to
work and also kopete showed disturbing behaviour by filling my memory without beeing asked.
27 jan 04 - testing kio_ftp..
let's see if this works.. jepp, nice! ;)
22 jan 04 - new kde-cvs packages
too late to tell about
andreas schulz' packages for christian muehlhaeuser aka muesli uploaded new
kde-cvs packages based on kde 3.2-rc1. for detailed information check
this thread. muesli also thinks about automizing the
build process to crank out daily (nightly?) builds.. nice! ;)

a maintenance release.. check
http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-3.1.2.php
i made a dist-upgrade some minutes ago, seems like chris has already uploaded the packages for sid ;-7
·update·
i checked the woody packages at http://download.kde.org/stable/3.1.2/Debian/, ralf has
also packaged 3.1.2.
17 apr 03 - xfree86 cvs updated

for more details
11 apr 03 - kde 3.1.1a released
kde 3.1.1a and 3.0.5b have been released to fix a security issue with postscript and pdf files. for more information check
dot.kde.org/1049927346 - PS/PDF file handling
vulnerability
the woody packackes maintained by ralf nolden have already been updated to 3.1.1a, chris cheney's sid packages are still
3.1.1 at the moment..
11 apr 03 - some site-updating
i removed ralf's kde repository and added the 'official' kde repository for woody to the links. also, i added some neverwinter
nights links, and corrected the faq.
11 apr 03 - daniel stone's xfree86 cvs
a new release of daniel stone's xfree86 cvs packages is in the pits. the packackes for some arches still have to be build and
tested, after that, daniel will update his repository.
09 apr 03 - kde startup
there's a pretty informative thread in the debian-kde ml dealing with the startup speed and memory usage of kde.
if you are not subscribed to the list, you'll find the links to the archives and the appropriate thread below.

bad news for those who run woody or sarge with kde3.1. ralf posted in the debian-kde ml that his repositories
are no longer available. read his statement for
more details.
29 mar 03 - nwn linux client beta3
bioware released the 3rd beta of the neverwinter nights linux client yesterday. check

27 mar 03 - inoffical kde 3.1.1 repository for debian *update*
patrick added kdirstat and mosfet's pixieplus to his repository
26 mar 03 - inoffical kde 3.1.1 repository for debian
patrick dreker created a little repository with some useful applications not included within debian:
aquaosk, kgamma, kgpg, kmplayer, kopete, ksetiwatch, mosfet-liquid
to access the repository via apt, add the following lines to your sources.list:
deb ftp://false.dyndns.org/ ./
deb-src ftp://false.dyndns.org/ ./
the binaries of this repository are for debian sid. if you use woody or sarge, you may download the sources and build
for yourself using the following commands:
apt-get build-dep <package>
apt-get -b source <package>
22 mar 03 - nwn beta client: 1st view
seems like it's working pretty well. i used ravages's installer, copied my savegames and yes, the look & feel
is much better than running it with wine ;-7
22 mar 03 - neverwinter nights linux beta client released
yesterday, bioware released the long awaited beta(!). some related links below.
i haven't had the time to test it, yet, but i'll keep you updated - if there is anyone to keep updated..
20 mar 03 - kde 3.1.1 released
read the
official announcement. anyway, ralf nolden and chris cheney have already
packaged it for woody and sid.
besides that, there's still a bunch of packages within sid which depend on libvorbis0 and
need to be recompiled with libvorbis0a..
16 mar 03 - faq updated
wrote a quick & dirty howto about creating debian packages..
15 mar 03 - faq online
added a faq-section..
15 mar 03 - libvorbis0a
seems like libvorbis0a can be found on most mirrors, so the sources-list entry
can be removed. still, many applications need to be recompiled and will be removed on
a dist-upgrade.
14 mar 03 - kde 3.1.1 in sid
chris cheney has uploaded kde 3.1.1 to sid some days ago. it depends on libvorbis0a which is not in sid, yet.
if you feel the need to install anyway, you may use libvorbis0a from chris. just add the following line to your
/etc/apt/sources.list :
deb http://people.debian.org/~ccheney/vorbis/ ./
please mind that all packages depending on libvorbis0 will be removed. according to the debian-kde ml,
libvorbis0a probably will hit sid this weekend. check the debian-kde ml for more details.
13 mar 03
debian.consistencies.net is online, we'll see what happens here ;-7
